Kitten Stalking 101

]]>I work part time in an office at a residence in a beautiful country setting. Several months ago, I noticed a stray black cat. Several weeks later, I saw she was pregnant. I tried to get her to come to me, but she was afraid. Then she disappeared for a while. Then I saw her again, and she was thin again. I wondered...where does she have those kittens? My first thought was the barn, and I was right!

One day I went down there, and lo and behold, there were two. Then for a few days, I only saw one. Then one day, I saw THREE! Momma - a solid black cat - has had three black kittens. And they're all scared of me so they run when they see me. We are feeding them now, but they still run, although the kittens are somewhat curious about me and my camera.

I've started a kitten stalking adventure this week to try to get some photos of these sweet little balls of fur. I've already learned, if Momma Cat sees me, I'm toast. Somehow, she whispers to those kittens to run and hide in the barn. Today, however, I managed to get a few shots with a borrowed lens twice the size and length as mine. I'll be stalking these babies the next two days, as I look for the perfect, publishable shot of a little black kitten.

]]>Life Lessons from a Cat features wisdom displayed through words and touching and delightful photos of our beloved cat Oreo, who we lost to intentional poisoning in November of 2009.

Oreo was 1/2 Ragdoll and 1/2 Tabby cat. Her fur was like rabbit fur - so very soft, and sweet smelling, too. She was beautiful, and the camera loved her sweet face.

I've created these images for two reasons: 1) To continue to share Oreo's joy and loving self with the world through photography, and 2) To bring awareness to the issue of animal cruelty, which kills 1,654,545,000,000 innocent pets and wildlife each year. I am hopeful the presence of little Oreo - even just through her photographs - will help change hearts and stop the cycle of cruelty to our precious creatures in this world. Read more about Oreo.
