Within the space of the photographic frame, my desire is to bring the casual observer to a point of personal focus with the subject, whether it be a wild animal, a beautiful bird, a loved pet, a serene scene, a fresh flower, or a special object. I hope the viewer will forget they are looking at a photograph, and instead see a different perspective, one that mixes painterly qualities with photographic realism. It is my goal with my images to make important what the normal eye may overlook, and to help the viewer establish a more personal relationship with the subject.
My edited and painted photographs are a world away from the original image which emerges from the camera. I add luminous and rich textured backgrounds to them to give them a timeless feeling. I play with light and tones so the subject is illuminated. I use many layers to give the subject depth and interest. It is my desire that my images move beyond the realm of general photography and instead become a unique style of art, with a focus on the most special qualities, personality, and feeling the subject portrays from within.
